In Vanishing Acts, Jodi Picoult masterfully weaves among her carefully crafted characters the story of a young woman who discovers she was abducted by her father and has been living a lie for twenty-eight years. Delia Hopkins, a search and rescue worker, embarks on her own search to rescue her own identity.Taking the reader from the green mountains of New Hampshire to the hot arid dessert of Arizona, Picoult enriches her story and characters with the contrast in setting and in the lives that are intertwined and yet so very different from each other.
Picoult keeps you turning the pages as layer by layer, Delia discovers what is important to her identity as well as learning more about the people who are closest to her. Be prepared to learn a little about the Native American Hopi culture and the jailhouse culture as Picoult adds these for contrast and intensity as well as depth.
A good read for a relaxing vacation.
