The Traveling Writer --Why EPub a book?
These past two weeks have been a flurry of activity as I began marketing and publicizing my ebook, Murder Among The Orchids. But many writers/authors will question my decision to self-publish an ebook. Here are a few reasons why I did so.
First of all, it wasn't for fame and fortune. I've had years of being famous as Rob's, Ron's, Andy's (better known as Drew), Cheryl's and Don's mom--not to mention Bob's wife. That has supplied more than the allotted fifteen minutes. And fortune? The first thing a seasoned writer will tell a newbie is "Don't give up your day job." I don't ever expect to get a six-figure advance and make millions on sales. [Sorry, kids, your inheritance will not increase greatly.]
This was a book I knew was capable of getting a contract--that is until there seemed to be no interest in cozy mysteries. The one publisher who was interested in my book discontinued the line and no others showed interest in looking at a cozy.
Once published traditionally, the publishing house still expects the same amount of marketing from the author that I am doing now.
Ebooks are here to stay. They are becoming more and more popular and are giving traditional paper publishing lots of competition.
I could go on but the bottom line is, I love to write. I love to tell stories--some true, some created out of my over-active imagination. And it's fun to have readers to share them with. Add to that a little pocket money for souvenirs along the way and I'm a happy camper--make that traveler. I hate to campout.
If you'd like a coupon for 20% off the purchase of Murder Among The Orchids you can go to my book's Facebook page and "like" it. I'll message you the coupon code from there. [Note: coupon code expires 9/24]
