Hometown Festivals - Mayberry Days
Andy Griffith, Opie, Aunt Bea, Otis, and who could forget Barney? The characters from the Andy Griffith show come alive in your memories as you walk the streets of Mayberry, USA (Mt. Airy, NC). There is still time to get in on their festival which is held in September.
Mayberry Days runs from September 22-25 with all sorts of activities and special guests in attendance. The Andy Griffith Playhouse and Blackmon Amphitheater are the hub for this but the activities go on in other areas of the town as well--all within walking distance. Wear comfortable shoes though. There's a bit of an incline--unless of course you're walking downhill.
The special guests are some of the directors and actors from the series including Betty Lynn (Thelma Lou). This is the town where Andy Griffith was born and raised. It is a delight to walk the streets and visit the shops and museum. It is one of our favorite places to stop when we pass through North Carolina.
